My textiles tutor introduced me to the shop Darkroom, which opened in London in 2009. It is unusual in the fact that they blend together interiors and fashion accessories, and try to create a less gender segregated shopping environment by displaying items by theme rather than genre. They are inspired by indigenous African textiles, art and jewellery, giving it a new modern twist in their designs. I like that they sell work from unknown designers from around the world as well as their own collections.
Camilla Walala’s bold designs particularly stood out to me. See her collection, T-R-I-B-A-L-A-L-A, below.

I was going to post more of my recent designs, and some photos that I had taken this week. However, my laptop was stolen from my suitcase while I was on the train from Bath to London on Tuesday. I’m really upset as I have lost lots of my dissertation, design work, as well as all of my photographs from the past eleven months. And my insurance does not cover theft outside the home (though it does cover losing things outside the home, say whaat!?). I just can’t think what kind of person goes through  someone else’s suitcase on a train and just takes a laptop. However I have learnt my lesson – BACK UP people! All the time! So I’m off laptop shopping this weekend, bye bye savings!
Expect those designs posted up here next week instead! Have a fabulous weekend!
