Reflections on 2017

Happy New Year! How was your Christmas? I’m sitting here by the Christmas tree in my pjs at 11am because that’s what life between Christmas and New Year is all about (if you are lucky enough to not be at work that is). Though Alex and I are heading to Cornwall tomorrow (now today) to celebrate the start of 2018 and I can’t wait.

Happy New Year

2017 was a crazy year – starting living in Australia, ending living in the UK, planning a wedding, starting a new job, moving house twice and starting a new business venture! This time of year I usually look back at the year and whether it was a good one or a ‘write off’ year. But I’m trying to look at what I learnt from a year, even if it was a bad one. And this one was a big struggle for the first nine months. Looking back at photographs for this post, I felt very grateful to have a year full of weekends away, family time, moving into a lovely new home and of course getting married. But a lot of these experiences were tainted by how I felt at the time, something you don’t see from a photograph.

Honestly though, not every year can be a good one and that’s ok. It’s ok to feel like you ‘got through’ a year rather than achieved a lot. It’s ok to write down a list of things you learnt rather than things you loved. My one main goal for 2018 is to be the best version of myself I can possibly be, for the people around me and also for myself. As a mini challenge I am going to do Veganuary this year! Being 99% veggie for the past 16 years I don’t think I’ll find it too hard apart from the social side like eating out, being coeliac too. I’ll keep you updated! What are your goals and how was your 2017?
