Airbnb in Modica
Alex and I have stayed in loads of Airbnbs over the years (and even hosted our own for a year and a half) but our Airbnb in Modica (here) blew us away! Modica, in the South East of Sicily, is actually the final place we stayed for our two week honeymoon, but the interior design deserves a post of its own. It was a beautiful first floor flat that we wanted to call home for longer than a week, and the most amazing view in the world! Just give me some stone floors, patterned tiles, a load of cacti and I’m a happy gal. Our London flat felt very small when we got home!
We fell into a happy routine of waking up late, making coffee and lounging around for a couple of hours, reading our books, having a slow breakfast. We’d then go for a walk up and down Modica’s steep, narrow and winding streets. Modica is famous for its unique chocolate, so we did loads of chocolate tasting! We brought home about 15 bars for family, colleagues and ourselves to munch on.
Most days we packed up a picnic for lunch and either headed to the beach or drove to a nearby town to explore and conduct some gelato research. Early evenings were spent soaking up the fading sun on our terrace with a book and Aperol Spritz, which I could make with my eyes closed by the end of the week. I would totally recommend staying in an Airbnb for your honeymoon, it’s so chilled and a lot cheaper too!
Modica at Night
Modica was so lovely to wander around at night when it had cooled down a bit, and felt really safe too. Our favourite bar for cocktails was Hemingway Bar, in a tiny backstreet. We didn’t eat out much in Modica as we ate SO much in Tuscany and so actually enjoying cooking at home. Doesn’t it feel so much more fun cooking in a rented holiday place, with a glass of wine in hand?!
Flats in Modica are literally about 5 percent of the price in London so we spent half our week daydreaming about renovating a home in Sicily. I would definitely be inspired by this Airbnb for the design touches. I’m planning a few more posts on Sicily and things to do around the area as we absolutely loved it.
