We Moved House!
We have been back in London for 5 months now and whilst we were finding our feet, we were lucky enough to be staying with my parents for that time. Last week we decided it was about time we found our own place here and very speedily found a little flat to rent in South-West London.Despite the crippling rent prices in London, I’ve realised how much I value having my own space. It doesn’t matter where it is, I just love making somewhere my home and putting a personal touch on it. I finally got to unpack the belongings which have been stored in boxes since January. Unpacking my favourite linen sheets, small pieces of artwork, the coffee mugs we bought from our local coffee shop in Melbourne shortly before we left… we’d almost forgotten we owned half of it, but as soon as we started putting things in their places, it felt like our home. Can you tell that I really like styling shelves? I’ve also come across some real gems that people have thrown out on the street, including a barbecue and a retro sideboard! Also our sofa was very kindly given to us by fellow blogger Catherine who was getting rid of it. I might have to do a blog post on thrifty decorating… It’s good to have a fresh start and a place of our own after 5 months of living in boxes and floundering about a bit. I’m excited to explore the coffee shops down the road, the many pubs and parks, and find a local market for weekend wanderings. I adore this time of year and I plan to spend as much of it outside as possible! It’s slowly sinking in that wherever we end up, we are always going to be missing the other side of the world quite a bit. It is strange feeling homesick when you’re technically ‘home’. I was speaking to someone yesterday who mentioned that having the choice of country to live in can sometimes make it harder than if you just had one home. The choice itself can be quite destructive. Can anyone relate?! Where is home for you?
