Essentials for a Cosy Night In

the-lounge-co_georgia_theloungeco-com
I’ve really embraced being at home this past winter. As much as I enjoy exploring at weekends and going out with friends, nothing beats curling up on the sofa in the evening and reading a book, watching a movie, or skyping the fam. The weather teased us here in Melbourne by warming up last week (I even sunbathed!) but now it’s back to its wintery ways, and I thought I’d embrace the chill for just another week. Here are my hibernating essentials…

1/ An addictive Netflix series

This past Winter I’ve got through a couple of really good series. There was the new Orange Is the New Black (always a favourite), then we worked our way through Luther (also really good!) and last night we just finished The Fall. It blew my mind – I think we watched the two seasons in a fortnight. Over the last week I would be out and about during the day and just think about how much I wanted to go home and watch more of The Fall. I highly recommend it. And the killer isn’t bad on the eye… always a winner. What is your favourite series at the moment? I need a new one!

2/ The perfect sofa

To me, a sofa is one of the most important pieces of furniture you will buy. Let’s face it, you sit on it for hours almost every day, whether that’s watching television, sitting with your laptop, or perched chatting with friends and a glass of wine. We are renting at the moment but I know that when Alex and I move to a more permanent home, the sofa will be the piece we spend the most time choosing. Getting the balance between comfort and style is actually pretty hard! I’m drooling over all the pink velvet sofas popping up on Pinterest at the moment but in reality I know a more neutral colour is right for us. If I had a second living room I’d definitely get a bit more creative.

This is why, when The Lounge Co. got in touch recently, it really caught my eye. It ticks every box by blending online prices with the accessibility of 21 galleries around the UK enabling customers to test out every model and fall ‘in love at first sit’. There are over 100 fabric and colour options to apply to their range of sofas, chairs, and footstools and there are even interactive mood boards to help bring your design to life. (Maybe I can convince Alex that we need a rose coloured chair instead of a full sofa…). They are all designed and manufactured in Britain, which is pretty amazing considering the price point. I’m in love with the sage coloured Willow sofa below, and the Florence below that.

3/ A cosy blanket

I’m obsessed with blankets at the moment. True Australia doesn’t get that cold, but we don’t have heating. So we make sure we always have at least one blanket thrown over the side of our sofa, or it would look even prettier stashed in one of those beautiful baskets I have my eye on.

4/ Soul warming food

Alex and I got ourselves into a bit of a Lindt Excellence bar habit this winter. They are just SO good. And they just kept being on sale, dammit. But in healthier news, I have been addicted to making stewed apples once a week in bulk. It’s so simple – just peel and chop a few apples, simmer for about half an hour in an inch of water and a pinch of cinnamon. They’re SO good heated up on top of yogurt, porridge, or even baked into an apple crumble and served with custard… And they totally warm you up.
