When it comes to floors… I’m a fan of wooden floors throughout a house (one day I will have a hardwood floor!). But there’s nothing like stepping out of a bed onto a softness, or adding colour, pattern, and warmth with rugs. They’re also GREAT for renting when you end up with a sludgy green carpet in your bedroom (hello uni flat). In fact I went through a bit of an obsession with buying little rugs/ throws, and so I’ve put together three ideas to use rugs in the home in slightly different ways.
1 // LAYER UP
Create a laid-back, bohemian vibe with rugs mix and matched and layered over each other. This is also cheaper/ easier way of covering a large surface area than putting down a wall to wall carpet. Stick to rugs in a similar shade/ tone and with all-over patterns.
I love the look of vintage mixed with modern. How amazing do these worn vintage carpets look against a more clean polished background? It puts them in the limelight even more than if they were used in a more traditional way. I’d stick to dark colours though, and keep away from the washing up/ cooking area.
We stick massive paintings on our walls so why not a gorgeous textured rug to create a cosy and luxurious feel? This idea would look great in the bedroom, perhaps used as a headboard. This is a lovely way to use a rug you might love but you find too bold to use on the floor. Or one that you think is too special to be trodden all over!
